Liposuction Information

Year after year, liposuction continues to be one of the top five most popular plastic surgery procedures performed in the United States. New liposuction techniques allow surgeons to more safely and effectively contour patients’ problem areas. Liposuction is designed to treat specific areas of the body, including the thighs, hips, abdomen, flanks, arms, under the chin, and any other area of the body that is not responding to diet and exercise.

During the first part of the liposuction procedure, general or local anesthetic is used to make the patient feel more comfortable during treatment. Next, a special solution that helps break up fat is injected into the treatment area. An incision is created and a suctioning device called a cannula is then inserted into the treatment area for the fat removal step of the procedure. Once the appropriate amount of fat is removed, the incision is closed and the patient is sent home to rest for a few days.
